Apple Tree Time-lapse

By , March 27, 2011 8:58 pm

This is a time-lapse of shadows passing under an apple tree. It was filmed in West Dover, Nova Scotia over the course of a day. To create the time-lapse 1400 frames were captured, with a 15 second interval between photos, over a 10 hour period. A TC80-N3 intervalometer was used to control a Canon EOS D60 DSLR camera. The song is “What is Love” by Van Syla.

Drive-lapse West Dover to Halifax, Nova Scotia

By , March 18, 2011 11:52 pm

This is my first attempt at a driving time-lapse sequence. The trip covers a 45 minute drive from West Dover to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Anyone who has driven Highway 333 knows first hand how twisty the road is!

The sequence was shot at dusk using a Canon Powershot SD780IS camera with CHDK and the Countdown Intervalometer script.

Winter Sunset Time-lapse in West Dover, Nova Scotia

By , February 4, 2011 8:11 pm

This winter sunset time-lapse was created on Feb. 4, 2011 in West Dover, Nova Scotia. The time-lapse was recorded on a Canon Powershot SD780IS camera using CHDK and the countdown intervalometer script. I used an ACK-DC10 AC Adapter to power the camera on a long extension cord with an interval of 10 seconds between photos. The focus was set to infinity. The temperature outside was -3°C but the camera didn't seem to mind it.

uBASIC Countdown Intervalometer Script for Canon Powershots Running CHDK

By , September 19, 2010 5:47 am

Several years ago I wrote a few simple intervalometer scripts for my old Canon Powershot SD400 cameras to record time-lapses. The scripts were very simple and worked reliably.

Recently, I started the process of making a script that is more powerful and feature packed. The latest time-lapse script version I call the Countdown Intervalometer because it lets you control the interval between shots, the total number of shots taken, and counts down to completion. As the script runs it will give you an estimated time remaining that is updated after every photo is taken. If you want to take perpetual photos, you can do that by setting the number of shots to zero and the script will run until your memory card is full.

The new script should work with most Canon cameras that can run CHDK - Canon Hack Development Kit. I am currently using a Canon Powershot SD780IS camera (also known as the IXUS 100 IS ) with CHDK and have had a blast making time-lapses. If you have enough memory space you can also capture CHDK RAW formatted DNG images with this intervalometer script too.

The intervalometer script can be downloaded here:
