Enabling Super-Fine Quality JPEG using CHDK

On Canon Powershot cameras that don't have the super-fine quality feature, you can enable it as a CHDK quality override.

Here is a 100% cropped region of two JPEG images. The image on the left was shot at normal quality and the image on the right was shot at super-fine quality.

Now JPEG images will be taken at the highest quality possible. If you want an uncompressed image you should try shooting with CHDK DNG RAW images.

Here is a file size comparison of the same scene shot at 3 different quality settings:

  • Normal Quality 745 KB
  • Fine Quality 2.1 MB
  • Super-Fine Quality 3.5 MB
